We continue to educate our youth, the future of America, but are they really getting an education? Test scores in our area versus national averages would tell us the answer to this question is “no”. A recent study, from another area of Tennessee, the Nashville Dade County Metropolitan area, showed that out of 100 students followed, only 24 earned higher level degrees from a 4-year course of study and 4 students in the study earned a 2-year associates degree. The balance of 72…had only their high school diplomas to help them become gainfully employed. What is the solution to this situation? One potential solution could save several problems. Why not use a simple single solution that could eliminate multiple needs at the same time? The solution is technical education. Can our school systems support a technical school program? I don’t believe we can afford not to support them.
